Facts about Electric RC Helicopters

Facts about Electric RC Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

An electric or battery operated helicopter is just one of the most common types of RC helicopters available in the market. At one time, it has been used mostly indoors. But bigger electric helicopters appropriate for outdoor activities and complex aerobics have started gaining status. Electric helicopter are noted for its silence making it a popular choice especially for those who are near residential areas and places where noise is strictly controlled like Germany.

Majority of electric helicopter throttles feature an integrated governor mode. You can opt to direct the throttle without using the standard throttle control of the radio. Electric helicopters are very steady in a hover mode due to the stable electric power output. It does not involve a clutch.

The usual electric helicopter includes 4 servos. Each of these servos can use fairly amount of current. The Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) must have adequate capacity to provide enough current for all servos working at the same time. The BEC is usually built within the speed controls to prevent weight of receiver batteries. Larger electric helicopters have started using separate, high voltage "Ultimate BEC".

New materials for motor batteries have also been discovered. One of the most recent that has proven remarkable results is the lithium chemistries. For the most part of various helicopter functions, it is still not recommended. NiCad's are still preferred due to its reliability and cost efficiency. It charges faster and provides higher currents with no difficulty.

A lot of helicopter enthusiasts have recommended electric R/C models for beginners. It is easier to fly and you do not have to worry that much on some technical issues. Regardless of your interests and level expertise on R/C helicopters, you will find no few reasons at all not to like electric types.

Trivia: The world's smallest remote-controlled production model electric helicopter is the Picoo Z according to the Guinness World Records 2006. It costs and sold in various toy stores, electronic shops, and online stores. Mosquito follows on the list which is a counter-rotating blade battery-operated R/C helicopter.

The world's smallest non-production R/C electric helicopter is the Micro Flying Robot developed by Seiko Epson in November 2003 for the International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo. Its stands at 2.8 inches (70 millimeters) and weighs 0.31 ounces (8.9 grams). It includes 2 microprocessors, a gyro-sensor, Bluetooth module, image sensor and an accelerometer.

There is a website that has great information on RC Helicopters, the website is called: RC Helicopters World, and can be found at this url: http://www.rc-helicopters-world.com
